I found this image on the Samba a while back, I think it was posted by Alaric. It’s a very helpful image to have around when you are working on the rear drum brakes. I know I get confused what goes where and in what orientation.

This is handy but it doesn’t show the critical orientation of the brake adjuster. Bentley’s exploded picture of the rear drum is pretty spot-on.

Hi Marius,
You mean the socketed forks at each end of the adjusting rod? Yes, the image is not helpful for that. I need to make an addendum.
Cheers

Yep, the forks at each end, as well as the fact that the adjusting rods have a left/right affinity. Left-hand thread goes on the right side of the car.

Yup,
You know what gets me confused with the Bentley. It’s the orientation of the drawings. Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out what side etc.
I think it’s is time for a sketch, and the Bentley diagram to go with the image I posted
