My northern correspondent (Phil Z.) sent me this today.
“Walking the Campbell River Spit this afternoon gave up this photo op. The
1950’s Chevy Coupe is actually older than the Beaver by a few
years.. C-FCDT Serial# 390 delivered, 1952 to the US AirForce”
Edit: So can anyone nail the age of the Chevy? Could it be, judging by the pics in the brochures here,a Styleline Coupe, ’49-’52?

As a product of the 1950’s myself, who even lived in Campbell River in the ’50’s I feel some obligation to comment. 🙂 The Aircraft Registry actually shows the year of manufacture as 1958 for this airplane, though I don’t believe it is correct. The Beaver in the background is #279 and it does show up as 1952 vintage. I wonder if 390 was perhaps returned to Downsview to be rebuilt in 1958 and retained the original s/n?

Some unofficial confirmation of the production dates here where 390 does appear to be from 1952 –

Angus,
I extracted info about #390 from this web-site: http://www.dhc-2.com/id386.htm

I’d say that date is definitely correct Phil, I just wonder why the government registry shows 1958. Thanks for the vintage shot!

You can’t beat Phil for the airplane info.
But will you beat him in getting your van back on the road before he gets his done?

Sounds like we’re both spending far too much time at the airport…
